The Ferrari Dino 246 GT Coupé: A Mid-Engine Masterpiece with a Unique Look

The 1971 Ferrari Dino 246 GT Coupé is a compact, aluminum-bodied coupé of striking appearance. A 2.0-liter, four-cam V6 engine with an internal five-speed transaxle provided the vehicle's propulsion. Alfredino Ferrari, the late son of Enzo Ferrari, inspired the Pininfarina-styled Dino, which was meant to be the first model of a distinct but connected marque.

Early Dinos had 2.0-liter V6 engines that produced 180 horsepower, while the later 246 had an expanded 2.4-liter engine with 192 bhp that could reach a respectable 7,600 rpm. These cars could reach speeds of close to 150 mph.

The first car that Ferrari produced in large quantities was the Dino 246. Many people praise it for its innovative construction and inherent driving prowess. Pininfarina created the small, aluminum-bodied Dino 246 GT, a coupé with a striking exterior.

The Dino 246 GT was known for its telepathic control and a top speed of almost 150 mph. Between 1967 and 1974, Ferrari manufactured the Dino 206 GT, 246 GT, and 246 GTS, three V6 mid-engined sports cars that were marketed under the Dino name.

The Ferrari Dino 246 GT Coupé has a unique appearance that is still admired today. It has a sleek and low profile with a long hood and short rear deck. The car’s design was inspired by the Pininfarina P6 concept car.

The iconic V6-engined Dino offered here is a right-hand drive, matching-numbers example built for the UK market. It is matching chassis and engine numbers, and was treated to a professional bare-metal restoration in the 2000s.

  1. A ferrari in all but name. A distinctive development effort and result. Hot Rodders may find pleasure in tuning into ferrari collector Divid Lee’s “Dino MONZA’ car, modified with the installation of a (proper) Ferrari V8, and other modernities/upgrades.
